Weekly Worship – Sunday Dec. 2 Recap

/, Victory Church, Weekly Worship/Weekly Worship – Sunday Dec. 2 Recap

Prepping for Christmas v. Prepping for Christ’s Return.

The decorations are out! TIme to hang the lights! What if we put the same effort into prepping for his return that we did into celebrating the anniversary of his birth?

We have calendars that tell us when Christmas is going to happen but we really don’t have much to go by to tell us when Jesus’ is going to come back. He talked about signs that would remind us that he was coming back.  Wars and rumor of wars. Basically, the world going to hell in a handbasket. These signs we have all experienced from generation to generation. The first persecution of the Church. The Black Plague. World War I and II. 9/11. Jesus goes on…

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.

“Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!’” (Matthew 13:32-37)

The key word is vigilance. Jesus left us with work to do. But it’s hard to stay awake when the boss isn’t around. To often we find ourselves sleepwalking through life. Get up adn do the same thing every day, month, and year. Every year work for and buy a bunch of stuff that will be forgotten in a year. If you fall asleep at work, there are you get fired

Is that all we are meant for? Think of our mind numbing activity. How much time do you spend on screens? John Piper said, “One of the great uses of Twitter and Facebook will be to prove at the Last Day that prayerlessness was not from lack of time.” Marijuana has been legalized in most states meaning as a culture we are okay with giving our life away by numbing it! What else is there? Would you want the boss coming back while wasting the life given to you?

Did you know that your job satisfaction will skyrocket if you understand that no matter your field, whether in the back room or the board room, God is using you to influence people?

Do you realize that you have the real gifts of Christ’s coming – Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love- have the ability to change lives when they are given?

The task Jesus left for us is NOT hanging lights – it’s BEING lights. (Check out “The Jesus Memo” on Youtube.)

In this way we are preparing for his return. Be vigilant in your task. Don’t get caught sleeping
