New school years bring all kinds of new beginnings and this year is no different. For the first time in over 40 years, math classes at Victory will be taught by someone not named Mr. Meyer. The page has turned, and the new face of mathematics at Victory this year is Matthew Griede. Himself an alum of Victory (then Lutheran High School) in 2008, Matthew (or Mr. Griede for you students) comes to Victory excited and ready to start something new!
Matthew graduated in 2012 from Concordia University in Portland OR with a BA in Secondary Education and a Professional Church Worker minor. In 2015 he graduated from Concordia Portland with his M.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction focused on Mathematics. After receiving his teaching degree he went off to North Carolina to teach at a small Lutheran High School for 3 years. After spending the last two years in Salem, OR, and Valley Center, CA, respectively, he is excited to be back in his hometown of San Diego, teaching at the school he graduated from just a few years ago.
Outside of the classroom, Matthew is an avid homebrewer (and a good one at that), a lover of baseball (Go Padres!) and a suffers from a severe case of wanderlust as he enjoys traveling to different parts of the country or even just random, spontaneous weekend trips to somewhere new.
The Victory family is thrilled with the addition of Matthew. He will be a wonderful asset to all of the students that pass through his classroom. Please join us in welcoming him aboard!
