Victory Over Suffering Day 9

Reading: 1 Peter 4:1-11 (NIV)

I pray for my boys. As a parent, I look at the world around us and see three boys in the minority. Not just ethnically but spiritually. My boys are in the minority that believes life has a purpose. My boys understand that there is an order to things. They have faith in a God who is their creator, redeemer, and guide. He is also their friend. Because of that reality, they will live differently. And they will be challenged.

We live in a cesspool. On the news, there has been reporting on the implementation of the state of California’s sex education program and how upset some parents are. I went online and took a look at the curriculum for 6th graders. To be fair there is some good information about how things work but the implementation shows something else. There is a recognition of the cesspool without calling it that but instead of how to leave the cesspool or drain the cesspool, to offer a better and brighter way, children are taught how to jump in and navigate that cesspool the best they can so they don’t pick up any diseases or unwanted pregnancies. The message is that the cesspool should be treated as perfectly normal. Everything is permissible. We live in a time when pornography is becoming more and more mainstream every day. The door is opening wider for mind-altering substances. But there is not more joy just more depression. There is no moral compass that links us back to a creator or purpose for living.

“For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do– living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.” 1 Peter 4:3-4

“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:7-8

Today’s Prayer

Holy Father, you are alive in every generation. Show yourself those who are dying in this fruitless life and let my children be alive in Christ, to show a different path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
