Summer Devotional and Sermon Series
Week 5/Heroes: Abraham
Thinking about Abraham’s test with Isaac, my mind turned to a great children’s book we have at home called, “Noah’s Trees.” It is a fictional story about how Noah was raising from saplings a forest of trees with great love and care. He didn’t know that God was going to need those trees to build an ark. One day God told him to build an ark. But it wasn’t just building an ark to build an ark. It was building an ark to save the world.
When we are asked to sacrifice it is often for a couple of reasons, 1) God needs to remove something that has turned into your god or 2) He needs it for a life saving mission. Either way. The reward for sacrifice is great and we know that God is not above sacrifice.
We all have things that are hard to let go of. We just have to ask, “Is it something I say I can’t live without (idolatry)?” or “Is it something that will help God’s mission which is more important?”
Trust that God will provide. He will always take care of you as you take care of others.
