Daily Devotional Series from Victory Church
Thanksliving Day 4
If we look at the Psalm for today, we can see specific blessings the psalmist is thankful for… forgiveness of sins, physical healing, redemption, love, compassion and for satisfying our desires. What wonderful gifts to praise God for. As we recognize and identify the specific blessings we have received from God and from others, we discover countless reasons for expressing gratitude.
A few years ago, I read a book by Ann VosKamp titled “1000 Gifts.” In this book, Ann shares how she was challenged by a friend to keep a list of the gifts God had given her and to see if she could reach 1000 gifts on that list. She was skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. She kept a notebook out on her kitchen counter so she could write down those gifts as they came to mind. It started slowly but as the list grew, it became easier to find those gifts in her life. One blessing led to another and then to another and then another…
Do you think you could come up with 1000 things to be thankful for? Why not give it a try? I was recently gifted a set of journals from a friend that I think will be perfect for my list!
Psalm 103: 1-5 English Standard Version (ESV)
“Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
