Thanksliving Day 28

Do you take delight in honoring someone else? It is not always easy to humble ourselves and put someone else’s needs above our own but this is what the verse today tells us to do. To take joy in honoring each other.

It our human nature to want to feel important and to be recognized for our accomplishments. We fill our Facebook pages with the brightest and best in our lives… we don’t want to show anyone what our lives truly look like. It is hard to admit to others that we are not perfect.

Humble people are grateful people while the proud display self-sufficient and ungrateful spirits. Grateful people are those who seek to bless others while ungrateful people are bent on gratifying themselves. Grateful people are quick to recognize the needs of others while ungrateful people are wrapped up in themselves and whose world revolves around getting their own needs met. Grateful people are other-centered while ungrateful people are self-centered.

Appreciation and humility go hand in hand. If you have a humble heart, it is easy to express appreciation to those around you. When was the last time you showed your appreciation for something that was done for you? I have seen videos on social media in which a group of soldiers are returning home, and when they enter the airport terminal, other passengers stand up and clap for them. A simple, but oh so meaningful, act of gratitude.

Henry Ward Beecher once said “A humble mind is the soil out of which thanks naturally grows.” What is the soil of your mind cultivating?

Gratitude In Action

Is there someone you know who consistently exhibits a humble spirit? What is it about them that makes them so remarkable and what can you learn from their example?
