Thanksliving Day 1

When you receive good news, I suspect your first reaction is to share that news. You want to share the joy of an engagement, a new job, a baby on the way, etc. Joy is contagious and we want others to experience our happiness. But what about when you are feeling grateful for a simple blessing in your life? Do you share that with others with the same enthusiasm?

We are all familiar with the saying “what goes around, comes around.” How could we apply that to sharing our thankfulness? Let’s think about that for a moment…

– Grace begets giving. Our daily lives are filled with God’s grace and His gifts, and from that should flow a spirit of giving.

– Giving begets gratitude. By giving to others, we cause thanksgiving to God to well up in their hearts.

– Gratitude begets more gratitude. Our horizontal giving to others leads to more thanksgiving returning vertically to God.

The simple act of sharing your thankfulness may be all that is needed to change someone’s outlook on their own life. Why not give it a try?

Gratitude In Action

True thankfulness is rooted and grounded in our relationship to the Lord. Try reading one or more of these passages from Colossians and then praying them back to God: chapter 1: 12-14, chapter 1: 15-22, chapter 2: 9-15, or chapter 3: 1-11

I chose Colossians 3: 1-11 “Lord, keep my mind focused on things above, not what is here on earth. I am thankful for the new life you have given me and look forward to sharing your glory in heaven. Put to death anything within me that is not pleasing to you as I am a new creation in you. My heart is full of gratitude for your work within me.”

Devotional Scripture

Colossians 2: 6-7 New International Version (NIV)
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
