Daily Devotional Series from Victory Church
Thanksliving Day 19
I am a list maker and in spite of all the technology available in the realm of calendars, planning etc, I still carry a physical “day timer” type notebook. Keeping lists helps me to accomplish the things I want to do each day. I have a daily to-do list, a budget sheet, a calendar, and various other lists of things I wish to keep track of. It is important to me to keep on top of bills I need to pay and when they are due.
Paying our monthly bills is important to our financial health and in much the same way, paying our debts of gratitude is important to our emotional well-being. If expressing gratitude is important to us, it needs to become intentional… not just a fleeting thought on our wish list.
What if you created a “Gratitude Account” list of people to whom you owe a debt of gratitude? Would adding it to your daily to-do list make it a priority? It could be the person at the gym you see everyday and who has encouraged you to stay on track… or maybe it is the UPS delivery driver who makes sure your packages arrive safely and on time…or maybe a friend who made sure she called you when you were going through a tough time just to check up on you. Just like your to-do list keeps you on track, this list will bring to mind people you want to thank and when the opportunity arises, you will have a ready made list to choose from.
We all have gratitude accounts but how many of us keep them paid up and current?

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or
with the affection of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. – Philippians 1: 3-11 New International Version (NIV)
