Daily Devotional Series from Victory Church
Thanksliving Day 17
What brings you happiness? If you were to ask people around you that questions, you would receive a variety of replies… but most of them would likely be tied to a particular event or to a possession. Happiness means different things at different stages in our live: to an infant, happiness is a fully belly and a dry diaper; to a child, happiness is a new toy; to a young adult, happiness could be a good paying job and a clear career path; to married couple, happiness could be financial security and a home; and to seniors, happiness could be time with their family.
Our verses today paint a different aspect of happiness. The writer shows us that happiness is found in wisdom. The person who has wisdom and good judgement has something far more valuable than riches or jewels. True happiness is not tied to circumstances but rather comes from the knowledge and recognition of the blessings we have in Christ.
Where is your happiness found…. In things of this earth or in the promises of the Lord?? If we truly have the joy of Christ within us, how can we not smile and feel more contented? I am reminded of the children’s song “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart…”

“The man who knows right from wrong and has good judgment and common sense is happier than the man who is immensely rich! For such wisdom is far more valuable than precious jewels. Nothing else compares with it. Wisdom gives: a long, good life, riches, honor, pleasure, peace. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who eat her fruit; happy is the man who keeps on eating it.” – Proverbs 3: 13-18 The Living Bible
