Daily Devotional Series from Victory Church
Thanksliving Day 13
It is easy to thank God when all is right with the world… when the job promotion comes through, when the marriage proposal is accepted, when the letter of acceptance arrived from the college you applied to. Words of gratitude are easy to come by.
But what about when you are overlooked for that promotion or your marriage is crumbling or when the letter is one of rejection… are those words of gratitude still on your tongue?
That is a tough choice to make but one that is God pleasing. Do we give God the glory only for the parts of our lives that are going the way we want? Or do we worship Him, trust Him and give Him thanks just because of who He is, in spite of the path our lives seem to be taking?
Either way, it is a sacrifice. We can go on without gratitude and live a life void of His peace and contentment, or we can recognize that anything in our life that makes us need God is a blessing and make a sacrifice of thanksgiving as our reading for today shows us. It is all up to you.
When gratitude flows easily and becomes our lifestyle- even in times of trouble and pain- we open ourselves up to the marvelous things He can do in our lives. Thank Him that we can use these situations to show His glory.
In the words of David in Psalm 34…
“I will extol the Lord at all times;
His praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt His name together.”
