Thanksliving Day 11

How do you physically feel when you are stressed and worried about something? For myself, I tend to feel tired and sluggish. All I want to do is sit as I have no energy to do much else.

Now, let’s flip that coin and think about how you feel when you are focused on the good you see in your life. You smile more, you have more energy and vigor, the world seems brighter. Living a godly life does not guarantee good physical health but a healthy spiritual life and a grateful heart can do much towards our physical and emotional well-being.

I think of the song “ It Is Well With My Soul”… which was written in a time of great tragedy in the life of Horatio Spafford, In spite of losing his four daughters in a shipwreck, Horatio was able to find peace and penned these words:

‘When peace like a river attendeth my way.
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
It is well with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul.’

I am not sure I would be able to say those words after such a horrible loss. How about you?

Gratitude In Action

A recent study was conducted to research the health benefits of an attitude of gratitude. Of the three groups involved, the group that was asked to make a list each day of things they were grateful for reported greater levels of alertness and energy, they exercised more frequently and experienced less depression and stress. It was well with their soul. How are you feeling? Can you say it is well with your soul?
