Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 38
Reading: Ecclesiastes 11:7-10, Mark 14:12-26
“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…” this truth from Psalm 23 is not just for those who are experiencing the pangs of death. It addresses the reality that no matter where we are that death casts its shadow over life. At some point, it all ends. We are all dying.
Solomon has been given us great insight on how to live well, now in wrapping up his book, he talks about how to die well. Verse one paints the picture of a person standing outside in the light of the sun, pausing to feel its warmth and appreciating what it reveals, in contrast to the young who are too busy moving from here to there that they only notice it when it’s gone. He pleads with the young to remember their creator. That is the key to not waste your days. One of my favorite prayers in the book, A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baillie and use this as your prayer today:
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.
Ecclesiastes 11:7 (KJV)
