Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 30
Reading: Ecclesiastes 7:23-29
If you read today’s reading, guys, you will spit your gum out. Gals, you will be mad and maybe hit they guy who spit his gum out. But like always, let’s pull out a bit and get a better look at why this passage was written.
From the book of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes we can see that Solomon was very wise. But we can also see here and from Kings and Chronicles that, while wise, he lived stupid. You have a friend like that right? They have the greatest advice and perspective but never actually follow it themselves. Their life is a mess.
I was reading that this is the passage where Solomon comes to his low point and basically says, “I was so stupid.” You can tell that he went through a lot of relationships. In some cases, he used the women and in others, they used him. He’s hurt.
I’ve been there before in my relationships. I wish that I could say that I prayed all my life for the my wife and then one day, when I was ready, Amiren appeared. I wish I could say that. There have been women that I have been “saved” from. It happened mainly because I couldn’t follow my own advice. I know women can identify with that as well. Like Solomon said, God created us upright but we go off chasing our schemes. Our hope for escape resides solely with him.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ Acts 2:21 (NIV)
“This only have I found: God created mankind upright, but they have gone in search of many schemes.”
Ecclesiastes 7:29 (NIV)
