Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 23
Reading: Ecclesiastes 6:7-9
Most of our work is not to pay the basic bills. Most of the work is to support a lifestyle. Even if you are at this moment just getting by, you are looking trying to build toward something else. There is nothing wrong with that unless it takes us to a place where we are never satisfied.
“I’m hungry and I don’t know what to eat!” That’s a phrase our youngest declares at least once a week at breakfast time. I usually rattle off the same 5-6 options none of which make him happy. Then he moans and wastes time desiring for something that will never appear while he has many cures for his hunger that can be ready in a minute or less. Eventually, he breaks, eats, and miraculously is satisfied. Verse 9 talks about how often we pass up things that are right in front of us while waiting for something that may never come. It could be breakfast, it could be a job opportunity, a chance to help someone, a lot of things. We forget that God gives us what we need in the moment to be satisfied.
“Everyone’s toil is for their mouth, yet their appetite is never satisfied.”
Ecclesiastes 6:7 (NIV)
