Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 22
Reading: Ecclesiastes 6:1-6 and Psalm 100
A friend of mine, Jolene, after cataract surgery, told me how horrible the result was. “I can see the cobwebs in my house!”
“I have seen another evil under the sun…” Are you tired of that phrase? Its part of the process though when the light comes into darkness. We see evil. We see things that need to change. In this case, we have a person who has been given everything you could hope for but not able to enjoy it. It is so sad. But that is a trap many of us fall into. You have been given so much but because of misplaced priorities you don’t see it and you don’t get to enjoy it. You focus on what you don’t have.
I remember an 8th-grade girl, coming back from a building a house in central Mexico remarking, “My room is bigger than their house.” At that moment she began to realize what she really had.
“Count your blessings,” may seem a little cliche, but it is a very powerful exercise. It leads you to a place of gratitude to God and satisfaction and enjoyment. Read Psalm 100 again and take several moments to jot down your blessings. You will be stunned at how long your list is. If you are in a place in life where it is hard to see any, enlist someone to help you.
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”
Psalm 100:4 (NIV)
