Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 18
Reading: Ecclesiastes 5:12-15
Jesus talks more about money than any other subject. Not because he wants it from you. He just knows what damage it can do when we trust it more than him. If you haven’t yet, read the parable of the Rich Fool some time. He sees what happens when we have too much. Do we give away the excess? What do you think?
He also sees with sadness people who have done a good job of saving only to have an unforeseen catastrophe wipe it out. Think of people suffering from a natural disaster or at the hands of Bernie Madoff or the Stock Market crash of 1929 where people were so distraught about their future that they flung themselves out of their office windows to their deaths.
It is so sad. The old adage is universally agreed upon. “You can’t take it with you.” Yet we still struggle with it. We trust money more than God. The God who created us and calls us home.
Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb,
and as everyone comes, so they depart.
