Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 17
Reading: Ecclesiastes 5:4-7
I was meeting with a group of church leaders once and a problem was put on the table and a lot of discussion was had about what could solve it. One person summed it up as, “There’s a lot of ways to skin the cat.” Another, visibly frustrated, said, “Yes, but you still have to skin the cat.” Talk is cheap until you actually do something.
This one hurts. Since we are in the middle of Lent, I believe it’s fair to say that I number of you made a vow to give up something. I also believe it’s fair to say that a number of you have looked for loopholes to get out of it. It’s also fair to say that a number of you have kept your vow and have been blessed by it, drawing closer to God.
This passage pretty much tells us that God doesn’t have a lot of time for idle promises. (Either vows or the endless chatter that happens between Christians about what they could or should do but never actually do. I am guilty. Very guilty.) BUT for those who keep their vows, who do the work, He will give all the time in the world.
“Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God.”
