Living In The Moment
Daily Devotional Series - Day 14
Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Do you have a faithful friend? What makes them faithful? What do they do for you? What do you do for them? I have been blessed in my life with many friends like this. People in my present and people in my past. When it comes to the past, I think of three guys that I met my freshman year of college. An online personality test made the run through Facebook and some of us took it. Looking at it, it didn’t make sense that we haven’t killed each other yet. Today, we talk to each other every so often. When we do, it’s like we have never been apart. When there are great joys to share, they are first in line. When there are great sorrows, they are first in line too. They are faithful because I know that no matter what, they will not judge me and turn from me, and will always pick me up when I need it.
A popular hymn you may have sung once or a hundred times is “What a friend we have in Jesus” because Jesus is that type of friend. When Adam and Eve blew everything up in the garden, God didn’t turn his back on them. He made a promise that someday He would fix it. Since then, we have had a terrible history of hurting people, but he never turned his back. In fact, He was faithful to his promise. He came and died. He fixed it. If you are struggling with something right now, He does not turn his back. He already died for your sin. He took the punishment. Let him lift you up. Be forgiven.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
