Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.” John 7:12 (NIV84)

Grace & Truth Day 7
Reading: John 7
Coming into contact with Jesus is rarely a lightning bolt from the sky that sends thousands of volts through your body or mind, illuminating the truth. It’s usually a wrestling match. You see this play out among the people of Jerusalem. Who is this Jesus?
Everyone had an opinion. He had done miracles. But he challenged the status quo. He taught like no one else. He challenged centuries old rules and schools of thought. He does good but doesn’t do good the “right” way. The city was going nuts! Some wanted to kill him. Some saw him as the savior. Others were caught in the wrestling match.
You may be feeling this right now if this is the first time you’ve read the Bible. A friend has given this to you. You have seen a change in their lives. They talk about miraculous things. But all your life you were told this was just another problem causing “religion.” That it’s just a bunch of stories. It’s not all true. You think the Vatican is hiding something. But Jesus seems to be pretty cool. You like what he’s saying. If that’s where you are, keep going! Keep investigating. Be like Nicodemus who is wrestling himself here and in chapter 3. He says here, “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
