“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.”

Grace & Truth Day 5
Reading: John 5
I know you’ve heard the phrase “The Truth Hurts”. Lately, when I look at my best pictures taken in the last few years I think, “Wow, I still look pretty good!” Then I look a little closer and realize that all of these pictures are a little “fuzzy” or out of focus. When I look in the mirror, I see a man with deep dark circles under his tired eyes. The mirror less than gently tells me, “You’re 45!” It hurts.
Whenever our thoughts, opinions, way of living, is challenged by the truth, it hurts. It means we are not who we thought we are. The Pharisees weren’t mad that Jesus healed. They were mad that he did it on the Sabbath, breaking one of hundreds of oppressive rules they created to control people in the name of God. Therefore Jesus must be evil or they would have to admit that He was the Son of God. The Truth Hurts.
You’ve also heard the phrase, “The Truth Sets You Free.” For years the paralyzed man had been fed the lie that he couldn’t walk because of some wrong he had committed and because of sin, he was not worthy of God’s love. Then He encountered the grace and truth of Jesus when Jesus said, “Take up your mat and walk!” Are you crippled by something in your past? Have you gotten bad spiritual counsel that’s left you in doubt? Is there a truth in your life you need to confront and make a change? Either way, in the Grace and Truth of Jesus we have life!
