“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Grace & Truth Day 4
Reading: John 4
What is your baggage? What are those deep dark things that you carry around with you that help explain why you are the way you are but you are afraid to put on display out of fear and rejection? Who would love you? Could God ever really love you?
The woman at the well had baggage. She already had a list of things that should keep her from God’s presence. She didn’t have the right parentage. Jews and Samaritans didn’t get along. Jews had told her people there was only one place to worship. One way to worship. Bloodlines alone separated her from God. Strike 1. Women were treated as second-class citizens. Strike 2. She also had a pretty weighty list of moral failings against her. The many men. If there had been a scarlet letter back then, she would have been forced to wear it. Nobody in town seemed to care for her. She avoided all the other women. Strike 3.
Then she met the grace and truth of Jesus. Jesus, the gentleman, saw her weariness and said, “Can I get you a drink?” followed by, “Let me carry your bags.” Finally someone cared. Finally someone loved for the sake of loving. It just happened to be the Son of God.
Are you tired and thirsty? Is your baggage weighing on you? Approach the Son. He’s waiting.
